Paris: the City of Lights. And of tech? Yes, as it turns out. As no stranger to innovation, Paris earned their lit-up nickname for being one of the first cities to install electricity. When Tech Tour brought their investor-focused conference to Paris last year, we knew we had to be there. Tech Tour is unique in that, at each tour stop, they exclusively showcase local talent and cover a variety of tech sectors - everything from healthcare, bio tech, clean tech, med tech, and more. We at G4A were excited to see what emerging technologies would await us.
Zsuzsanna Varga, Global Head of Digital Health Partnerships, joined the hustle bustle to participate on a jury and give assessment of presenting startups. She evaluated them each on various parameters: sound business approach; novel and disruptive technologies; etc. There were a few who really stood out - all French and all representing different stages of maturity…
Overall we left Tech Tour with the impression that a lot of interesting things are happening in France right now. France is positioning themselves accordingly and they have good reason to. Venture Capital deals in the tech sector have exploded since 2014, from 179 million to 720 million. The French government has even announced their goal to make France a “country of unicorns.” The track they’ve paved thus far includes 1.5 billion EUR investor commitment for AI and a 4-year visa program called French Tech Ticket to entice foreign startups to set up shop in France.
France is definitely a country to watch. We would love to see Sensome, Grapheal, Neuract and others come through our G4A program and explore partnering opportunities for our Bayer Pharma business.
